A Malaysian German-based freelance choreographer-dancer. Graduated his Bachelor and Master in Choreography at Folkwang University in Essen, Germany and Diploma in Dance at ASWARA in Malaysia.

Selected as the residency artists for the K3 Choreographer in Residence Season 2019/2020 in Hamburg.

As dancer, Raymond is currently in a project with The Nature Theatre of Oklahoma. He has danced as a guest dancer with Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal in ‘Rites of Spring’, as well as Theater Bremen,  Folkwang Tanz Studio, Tanz Company Gervasi, Kwang Tung Dance Company, Aalto Theater, Jerome Bél, Henrietta Horn, Samir Akika, Rodolpho Leoni, Mark Sieczkarek, Fang-Yu Shen, Ben Riepe, Joseph Gonzales, Amy Len, Wong Kit Yaw, Umesh Shetty, Steve Goh and Jay Jen. During his study period at Foon Yew High School, he trained under Cheong Lin Poh. He is one of the finalist of ‘So You Think You Can Dance Season 2’ in Malaysia.

Since 2016, Raymond works together with German artist Jascha Viehstädt and created ‘Mermaid’ for P-bodies#2 Festival in Leipzig. Early 2018, they presented ‘Mermaid’ in Malaysia, meantime premiered  ‘Continue I-Tongue’ at DPAC, Kuala Lumpur as their second production, a collaboration with several Malaysian artists.  ‘Continue I -Tongue’ was recently awarded for the  Best Choreographer in a Full-Length Work, Best Set Design, Best Music & Sound Design at the 16th BOH Cameronian Awards 2019 in Malaysia. 

Continue is a trilogy dance production which made up of Tongue, Triangle and Touch. After the successful performance in Malaysia with ‘Tounge’, Raymond is inviting for a residency program at Heidelberg for ‘Triangle’ and another residency at the Seoul Dance Center in Korea for ‘Touch’.

Created a solo performance ‘Dear Raymond’ which is about his survival in a tragic speedboat accident in Pulau Tioman in 2013. Fifteen surgeries and a year of recovery later, not only is he able to walk again, he has returned to his passion, more determined than ever to live out his life in dance. Meantime, ‘Dear Butt’ is served as a part of his solo performance & as a part of his healing process, it is a butt collection with polaroid installation.

‘The Edge’ is invited at the PRISMA- The International Contemporary Dance Festival of Panama in 2017 and  d’Motion International Dance Festival in Malaysia in 2014. ‘Cut the Clouds’ was a collaboration between the dancers from Germany and Malaysia, it nominated for the Best Choreographer in a Mixed Bill & won the Best Group Performance with DPAC Dance Company, Best Lighting Design and Best Music/Sound Design at the 12th Boh Cameronian Arts Awards in Malaysia.

‘Red Head’  – Solo Duo2015 Competition in Köln, ‘Gone’ – The 25th International Competition in Hanover , ’Fish’ – Competition Contact energy’12 in Erfurt and ’Without Drowning’ – KuK Award in Essen.

Choreographed for companies such as Folkwang Tanz Studio (Germany), Maya Dance Company (Singapore) and DPAC Dance Company(Malaysia).

Received a residency at Tanzfaktur Inkubator Residency Programme in Köln and PACT Zollverein Essen “Choreographic Dialogue” Special Residency Programme 2015, mentoring partner with Verena Billinger,choreographer and dramaturge from Düsseldorf.
